NORWAY – Those who want to keep fit in the New Year can find a variety of options sponsored by Stephens Memorial Hospital, both outdoors and indoors.
The hospital will host a moonlight New Year’s Day snowshoe hike up the backside of Streaked Mountain.
Lorie Olson will lead the hike, and participants should gather at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at the Ripley Medical Office Building parking lot, 193 Main St. Carpooling is recommended. Dress in layers and make sure to wear a hat and gloves. The hike is free to all, but registration is required.
On Saturday, Jan. 6, HeartSong Kennel will join the hospital to host a dogsledding adventure. The event starts with a kennel tour, where participants will meet and learn all about the dogs as well as some general history and facts about dogsledding. They will help harness the dogs in preparation for a 15 to 20 minute basket ride through the snow. Partipants shold dress in layers, with winter boots with gaiters or a way to block deep snow from getting into tops of boots. Sunglasses or goggles are recommended.
It takes place at 9 a.m. at HeartSong Kennel, 160 Ryerson Hill Road, South Paris. Carpooling is suggested. Anyone wanting to carpool should meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Ripley Medical Office Building parking lot. The cost for this experience is $25 per person and registration is required.

Those who want to learn about excerising indoors can join the Stay Fit Indoors class, which does not involve exercise participation. It is led by Dee Snow, personal trainer, health foach and rehab aide at Stephens Memorial Hospital’s Physical Therapy Department.
The program will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, and will meet in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building. The hospital will also hold an indoor walking program every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 2, and continuing to May 3. Thes program is led by Debi Verrill, executive aAssistant at Stephens Memorial Hospital and Olson.
Thw class for all walking levels and will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, The series is free to all, but registration is required.
