WATERVILLE — The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers has not received enough donations needed to support the agency’s Christmas program. Each year, the program provides new clothing, books and gifts to more than 1,700 financially disadvantaged children across the state.
This year, the number of children supported through the program has grown to more than 1,800.
In order to complete packing for the Christmas boxes and distribute them in advance of the holiday to the families in need, the Waterville-based nonprofit is requesting the community’s help in replenishing their most urgent donation needs. All items donated to the program must be new and in their original packaging. The most urgent needs include omplete outfits sizes 0 through 16 for boys and girls, especially size 3 for boys and sizes 8 through 16 for boys and girls, and warm pajamas for boys and girls, sizes 6 through 16.
“The Christmas Program is a year-long effort,” said Cristen Sawyer, program coordinator. “It’s never too early or late to donate. New donations can be dropped off at the development office at The Maine Children’s Home, 93 Silver St., Waterville, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Alternate donation drop-off locations include:
* Nancy Marshall Communications — 151 Capitol St., Suite One, Augusta, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Mainely Tubs — 415 Payne Road, Scarborough, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Ampersand Dance Academy — 293 Water St., Gardiner Monday through Wednesday, 3 to 8 p.m.
