AUBURN — Bernard Fishman and Jennifer Dube will speak about the Maine State Museum at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at The Village Inn, 165 High St.
Fishman, director of the Maine State Museum since 2012, grew up in New York City and earned degrees from Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. He has worked in Egypt as an egyptologist for the University of Chicago, and for more than 30 years has been a museum director.
Growing up he spent many summers in Maine, and for years his family owned retail stores in four Maine locations, including Waterville, under the name of M.H. Fishman Company.
Dube, director of Friends of the Maine State Museum, has a passion for museums, having had her first date and her wedding in a museum, according to a news release from the L-A Rotary. As a certified grant writer and continuous improvement lean leader, Dube brings with her more than 20 years of development, marketing and operations experience to lend to the Friends of the Maine State Museum.
She has a gift for building awareness for the vital and critical part private funding plays in preserving, protecting and making collections and exhibits accessible to people of all ages.
Nationally, cultural museums are seen as the most trusted source for learning and out of classroom experiences. In Maine, the Maine State Museum is leading the charge. As one of just three percent of museums accredited nationally, the museum is embarking on creating a 21st century learning lab allowing visitors unprecedented access to collections, museum educators, curators and scientists. Join Fishman and Dube as they share more about the project and plans to connect Maine with its rich history, heritage and natural sciences collections.
Reservations are not required.
