AUGUSTA — More than $45,000 was raised in the Free ME from Lung Cancer Save Your Breath 5k run/walk Nov.5 on the Kennebec Rail Trail.
More than 150 people from around the state ran or walked in support of lung cancer patients and their families.
The group also announced it will fund its first research grant, in the amount of $100,000 in partnership with the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, which will match FMFLC’s funds, bringint the grant total to $200,000. FMFLC has chosen to study early detection.
FMFLC also announced the Normand Dubrueil Radon Air Abatement Grant to help single family low-income homeowners get access to radon air abatement systems. FMFLC has enough money to support two air abatement systems, according to a news release.
Next year’s run/walk will be Nov. 4.
Winners of this year’s run were:
Men’s Group — 1st place, Kyle Simmons; 2nd place, Chad Perry; 3rd place, Robert Dowling, Jr.
Women’s Group — 1st place, Cecillia Dube; 2nd place, Tamiko Davies; 3rd place, Lauren Spencer.
