NORWAY — Christine Hein, M.D., gave the annual Walter G. Dixon Lecture Monday, Oct. 30, in the Harper Conference Center at Stephens Memorial Hospital. The topic was “Promoting Well-being in the Changing Landscape of Healthcare.”
Hein completed medical school at Dartmouth School of Medicine in 2001 and returned to Maine for residency, training in emergency medicine.
She was selected as chief resident in emergency medicine in 2003, graduating from Maine Medical Center’s residency program in 2004. Since completion of her training, she has been an attending physician and is the associate director of emergency medicine at Maine Medical Center.
Hein is also an assistant professor at Tufts University Medical School. Clinical and research interests include wellness and burnout considerations in medicine.
Hein is also the medical director of the MaineHealth Emergency Medicine Workgroup and director of the MMC Peer Support and Provider Wellbeing Program. She enjoys spending time with her husband and five children and works on her own wellness with a dedication to marathoning.
Walter Dixon, M.D., for whom the lecture is named, was an orthopedic surgeon at Stephens Memorial Hospital for 45 years, retiring in 1984. The medical staff of Stephens Memorial Hospital established the Dixon Fund in honor of his years of service to help defray the cost of speakers coming to the area for continuing medical education for physicians and staff.
The first Dixon lecture was held in 1986 and has become an annual event.
