Free parenting classes offered in Farmington

FARMINGTON — Free parent enrichment workshops, including free snacks and onsite childcare, will be held throughout the next several months, sponsored by the Franklin County Children’s Task Force, 113 Church St. Registration is required; call 207-778-6960. Unless otherwise noted, the workshops will take place at the Children’s Task Force building.

1-2-3 Magic, for caregivers of children ages 2-12, single session, offers parenting solutions that are effective and easy to learn. This course covers STOP Behaviors — things you want your child to stop doing, such as whining, throwing tantrums or shouting; and START Behaviors — the things you want your child to do, such as cleaning their room, going to bed or doing homework. Sessions are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 11/15, 22, 29 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Mallett Elementary School, 16 Middle St.; Mondays, 11/27, 12/4, 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rangeley Lakes Regional School, Mendolia Road; Monday 11/27, 9 a.m. to noon, Farmington Head Start, 103 Deerfield Lane.

1-2-3 Magic and More — Saturday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offering more parenting solutions.

Alcohol, Anger and Abuse — group-based prevention sessions, an innovative community-based training program, for parents and professionals, exploring the understanding and prevention of the relationship between alcohol and other drug use and child abuse and neglect. — Mondays, 3/26, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery — These group-based workshops are ideal for partners of parenting adults in treatment and recovery, extended family who may be parenting children of substance abusing adults, and adults in treatment and/or recovery who are in parenting relationships with children. Thursdays, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, 1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, & 3/29 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Surviving Your Adolescents — How to Manage and Let Go of Your 13-18-year-olds — From the creator of 1-2-3 Magic, this program takes a step-by-step approach that will help end hassles and offer concrete solutions. Caregivers will learn the difference between teens and parents, what problems require professional attention, five ways to improve any parent/teen relationship, tactics to combat testing and manipulation, and more. Wednesdays, 3/14, 3/21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Active Parenting: First Five Years — A workshop for parents with children ages birth to five. No one is born knowing how to parent. It’s something we learn growing up, and sometimes we need a little support to become the parents we wish to be. This class addresses basic skills for new parents, caregivers, and early childhood staff.Mondays, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursdays, 10/19, 10/26, 11/9, 11/16 from 9 to 11 a.m., Farmington Head Start.

Nurturing Parenting — A 10-week workshop for parents with children of any age. No one is born knowing how to parent. It’s something we learn growing up, and sometimes we need a little support to become the parents we wish to be. In the Nurturing Parenting Program, you will learn new skills and attitudes important in building self-worth in your children. This is an opportunity to connect and talk with other parents. Saturday, Nov. 30, from 9 to 11 a.m, Wilton Head Start, 284 Main St #110.

Active Parenting Now — A six-week workshop for caregivers of children, ages 5-12. Work as a group with other Dads to learn more about fatherhood means to you. Each class provides proven skills that foster and support healthy family relationships and child development. Mondays, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
