LEWISTON — There will be “one hip afternoon of belly dancng” featuring Imari & the Sahara Desert Dancers and special guest percussionist Bernie Vigna beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St.
The event will serve as a way to honor veterans while benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Imari & the Sahara Desert Dancers has committed 17 years to sharing the art of belly dancing with nursing homes and hospitals on a volunteer basis.
The members of the troupe spend summers entertaining at family festivals and charity events region-wide, raising thousands of dollars for local charities such as the Central Maine Medical Center Unrestricted Annual Fund, Salvation Army, The United Way, Odd Fellows Nursing Home, St. Mary’s Hospital Breast Health Program (Belly Dancing for Breast Health is a fundraiser founded by Imari.), and Make-A-Wish Maine.
The dancers vary in age, each balancing professional and family lives, and together they have formed an undeniably strong bond in striving to make a positive difference in their community and beyond.
