AUGUSTA — The Children’s Center celebrated completion of its newly renovated playground with a ceremony thanking donors for their support over the years, particularly the Shuman family.
Jeff Johnson, executive director at the Children’s Center, welcomed guests, staff and children to one of the few completely inclusive and accessible playgrounds in central Maine.

Students thanked donors by singing and signing “This Little Light of Mine,” as well as creating a list of “Why We Love Our Playground” read aloud for guests. The organization specifically recognized the Shuman family of Charlie’s Motor Mall of Augusta for their donation of $25,000 towards the project. The agency dedicated the major customized play structure to the family for their generosity over the years.
The Children’s Center has provided specialized programs to young children with disabilities for 50 years, offering a continuum of care. The Children’s Center provides services through its primary facility in Augusta as well as its programs in Gardiner, Farmington and Skowhegan to serve the greater Kennebec, Franklin and Somerset areas.
