TURNER — The Turner Museum and Historical Association invites the public to a presentation by Ronald Beedy about his tour of duty in the Vietnam War at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.
Beedy recently authored “Memories of a Manchu Vietnam 1967-1968” about his service as a platoon leader with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Manchus, 25th Infantry Division. The presentation includes a showing of his personal color slides.
The presentation will be at the Leavitt Institute, 98 Matthews Way.
Beedy was raised in Hartford, graduating from Leavitt Institute in 1961 and the University of Maine Farmington in 1971. He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officer’s Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga., where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After his service, he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Barbara Varney of Turner, and together they raised three sons — Brad (Ron), Jo and Tom. Ron is well known for his career as a history teacher and coach in Livermore Falls.
Beedy’s passion for books and history was the impetus for him to write his memoir. Beedy will share his soft and thoughtful, personal historical look back to his time served. His words 50 years later will provide meaningful images of the jungles, mountains and rice paddies of Vietnam where his Manchu battalion conducted their operations.
