Community Credit Union makes donation to benefit backpack program

Oct. 102017

LEWISTON – Community Credit Union presented The Good Shepherd Food Bank with a check in the amount of $1,500 to benefit three local schools recently.
Longley Elementary, Washburn Elementary and Carrie Ricker will all receive $500 towards their schools’ BackPack Program from Good Shepherd Food Bank.
The money will go directly to benefiting each schools’ backpack program/food pantry. The BackPack Program provides children with healthy, easy-to-prepare food during weekends and school vacations, when the school meals they rely on are unavailable. Together the schools serve more than 300 people within their communities.

Community Credit Union participates in the Maine Credit Union League Campaign for Ending Hunger. Maine Credit Unions have raised more than $7.2 million since 1990 to help end hunger in Maine. At the end of each year, 100 percent of the money raised by each individual participating credit union is given back to that credit union to be distributed to hunger organization in their community. In 2016, participating Maine Credit Unions raised a new record total of $674,000 for the Ending Hunger Campaign.
Community Credit Union is located at 144 Pine St., as well as 40 Stanley St. in Auburn and 1025 Auburn Road, Turner. For more information, visit www.communitycreditunion.com.
