NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is holding an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.
The event is an opportunity for the public to visit the center, at 199 Main St., meet some of the volunteers and support group facilitators, pick up a calendar or comfort item, and see how the center is able to assist those impacted by cancer. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.
The Cancer Resource Center — started in 2014 by a group of local residents — is a place where family members and the person impacted by cancer may receive support. Services include a lending library, informational resources, and comfort items such as port protectors, pillows, hats and bonnets. The Center is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is staffed by volunteers. Recently, they were awarded a grant and will be hiring an executive director. Activities such as cancer support groups, wellness activities such as yoga, exercise and Reiki, and a variety of craft classes are offered free of charge for anyone impacted by cancer, cancer survivors and caregivers.
“Caring Coupons” for massage, reflexology, therapeutic yoga and Reiki are also available. The center will hold its first annual four-mile “Turkey Trot 4 Hope” Thursday, Nov. 23. Registration forms will be available at the open house.
