STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society’s pictorial 2018 calendars are now available at several area stores and through the society. The proceeds from the calendars help support the society. The 2018 cover features Stratton High School Class of 1968, with Marie Tasker, Kathleen Webber, Judy Bigelow, Huguette Dube, Carlene Wilbur, Gregory Scribner, Timothy Targett, Morris Henderson, Richard Fotter, Richard Frost and Floyd Nile.
Featured photos are: January, Maude Wing’s house being moved from Flagstaff to Eustis, 1949; February, Dead River School, children and teacher, Feb. 1, 1939; March, Big Jim Pond Camps, postmarked 1930. The April photo is Eustis High School, grades 11 and 12, 1954-1955; May, Jack Codding and Charles W. Stevens with Togue; June, The Bungalow, Eustis, early 1900s; July, general view of the camps at King and Bartlett; August, Kennedy Smith of Eustis Ridge, late 1800s, guide and local entrepreneur.
September’s photo is Mount Bigelow from Dead River Plantation, circa early 1900s; October, the Arnold Trail along Chain of Ponds, 1930; November, The Stratton, 1923 (now The Plaza); December, the new bridge over Stratton Brook under construction, circa 1950s.
The back page of thes calendar features a paragraph about each photograph. The pictorial calendars are made possible by ads from local businesses, and the historical society urges area residents to patronize those businesses.
The calendards are for sale at Flagstaff General Store, Pine’s Market and Fotter’s Market. The calendars can also be bought by mail, for $8, plus $2 for postage. The society’s cook book is also available, $6 each or two for $10, from the same address as the calendars.
