Story poet Wilcox to be at Rangeley Public Library Sept. 13

RANGELEY — Local storyteller and poet Jeep Wilcox will share his work at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Rangeley Public Library.

Wilcox, inspired by the big woods of the region, began creating story poems at a young age and will share work created over a lifetime in the woods of the Rangeley region.

Wilcox as a child wandered the mountains and woods, leaving story poems on trees using a pen, pencil, or jackknife. As people began to notice his work, he began sharing it with audiences of all kinds, becoming well-known to folklorists and other members of the traditional arts community. He has appeared at Maine’s Folk Festival, the Lowell, Mass., Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival, the North West Folk Festival of Seattle, and numerous schools and civic organizations. He has been featured in Peter Mehagen’s “On the Road Again,” on the radio, and in “Gather Round New England Storytelling,” an exhibit by the Vermont Folk Life Center.
