Former Oklahoma City medical examiner to speak at USM LA Food for Thought Oct. 13

LEWISTON — Fred Jordan, who was Oklahoma chief medical examiner at the time of the April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City bombing, will be the speaker at the USM LA Senior College Food for Thought luncheon, Friday, Oct. 13.

Doors open for the event at 11:30 a.m., and the talk begins at noon. The talk is open to the public at the school, 50 Westminster St. Room 170. Those who want to reserve lunch may call 207-753-6510 before noon on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Those without a reservation may purchase a lunch at the Cafe LA and are welcome to listen to the speaker.

When Jordan became chief medical examiner of Oklahoma, tornadoes were the primary concern in the state. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing, which killed 168 people and injured nearly 700, not only changed people’s perceptions of the world around them, but “the lessons learned then were important for effective response to later tragedies, including 9/11,” Jordan said.

Jordan was chief medical examiner in Maine before he took the post in Oklahoma, and is a Bowdoin College graduate. He is officially retired and lives in Poland, and was ordained in 2015 as a minister and is hospice chaplain for the Unitarian Universalist and United Church of Christ denominations.
