MOUNT VERNON — The 30 Mile River Watershed Association is hosting its first annual Watershed Community Social from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Camp Vega, 317 Echo Lake Road, Fayette.
The event is for those in the area to gather and celebrate their shared dedication to the region’s lakes and ponds.
The watershed council came into existence in 2008 as a means of preserving, improving and protecting the land and water quality in the 30 Mile River Watershed, which extends from Kimball Pond in the New Sharon/Vienna area down to the Androscoggin Dead Water, and includes the towns of Chesterville, Fayette, Leeds, Mount Vernon, Readfield, Vienna and Wayne.
With the help of both seasonal and year-round staff and its many volunteers, 30MRWA offers programs such as courtesy boat inspections, water quality monitoring, invasive plant patrols, the Youth Conservation Corps, watershed surveys and the annual Paddle Trek.
Those attending the social can learn more about the organization’s mission, meet your fellow watershed residents and to celebrate the continued work being done by the 30 Mile River Watershed Association, organizers said in a news release.
