AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St., will hold a variety of activities for teens and tweens throughout the month of September. The current schedule includes the following:
Tuesday, Sept. 12, 4 to 5 p.m., Tech Talk Tuesday, Teen Space — Selected Tuesdays each month will feature healthy, after-school snacks and conversation about technology. Has having a device made your life easier? Has it changed the way you interact with your friends? Do you have an app that has made your life easier? Come share your thoughts on all things technology. This program is for teens, ages 12-18.
Wednesdays, Sept. 13, noon to 2 p.m., Tweens in the Teen Space — On half-day Wednesdays, sixth-graders are invited to visit the Teen Space. Come by and get a head start on homework, participate in crafts, play board games or simply hang out. “Gaming Hour” will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room for ages 12-18, and is made possible by donations.
Thursday, Sept. 14, 3 to 4 p.m., Safe Voices Drop-In, Teen Space — Meet up with Whitney from Safe Voices. Each month, she will visit the Teen Space to chat about relationships and work on projects. DIY follows from 4 to 5 p.m.; the project is Washi Tape Organizers. These are once-a-month, do-it-yourself craft opportunities. The organizers are crafted using cereal boxes and Washi tape. This program also will include a healthy snack.
Wednesday, Sept. 20, 3 to 5 p.m., Tweens in the Teen Space, ages 13-18, matinee movie — “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (PG-13); this includes a healthy snack.
Thursday, Sept. 21, 2:30 to 4 p.m., — Homework help in the Teen Space includes a healthy snack. (The Teen Space will not be available for hanging out until 4 p.m. on homework help days.) Throwback Thursday, 4 to 5 p.m., gives teens, ages 12-18, an opportunity to play favorite childhood games and eat snacks while having fun. Although the library has many games on hand, teens are welcome to bring a favorite game to share.
Wednesday, Sept. 27, noon to 2 p.m., Tweens in the Teen Space followed by SAPARS drop-in with Hannah from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services. Each month, she will visit to discuss and create awareness of teen issues like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse and Internet safety. Just for teens ages 12-18, this event may include snacks.
Thursday, Sept. 28, 2:30 to 4 p.m. — Homework Help in the Teen Space is available any time between 2:30 and 4 p.m. for help in any subject or to get started on homework in a supportive environment. This program will include a healthy snack. The Teen Space will not be available for hanging out until 4 p.m. on homework help days.
Friday, Sept. 29, 4 to 5 p.m., Gaming Hour — Teens can take a break from studying and stop by the Androscoggin Room on the lower level for video games and snacks. The library has XBox, Wii and a small collection of games. Teens are welcome to bring their favorites, but only those rated T and E. This program is just for teens, ages 12-18, and was made possible by donations.
Upcoming events include:
* “Banned Books” week — “Our Right to Read” — Sunday through Saturday, Sept. 24 to 30. There will be displays as well as some banned and challenged books that can be checked out.
* College Night 2017 will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Join admissions representatives from eight colleges and universities as they sit on a panel facilitated by Maggie Davis, formerly of College for Maine Androscoggin. Following the panel discussion and a brief Q & A session, there will be a college fair featuring admissions reps from 14 different Maine schools with information specific to their schools.
