Public hike will dedicate Rosmarin and Saunders Family Forest Sept. 17

Aug. 312017

WINTHROP — The Kennebec Land Trust will celebrate the dedication of the Rosmarin and Saunders Family Forest and the newly constructed trails at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

The Rosmarin and Saunders Family Forest was formerly owned by Saunders Manufacturing Company Inc., a manufacturer of aluminum clipboards. The hilly, wooded property has been used year-round for hunting, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and hiking. After the company was sold in 2016, John and Lisa Rosmarin donated 342 acres to the land trust so the public could continue to enjoy the land.

The land trust directors and staff will lead hikes on the new trail after a short dedication ceremony. Cider, cookies and apples will be served after the hike, which is free and open to the public, no registration required.

To get there, take Route 41/17 in Readfield, turning right onto Nickerson Hill Road. Turn left after 0.6 mile into a small parking area.
