SOUTH PORTLAND — Girl Scouts of Maine is hosting Discover Girl Scout and Girls Night Out events for potential members and volunteers throughout central Maine in the coming weeks.
The Discover events bring together girls from kindergarten through third grade and their caregivers, and allow them to discover why Girl Scouting is important to the development of girls, how it relates to the success of young women today, and the important role that adults play.
The Girls’ Night Out events are free drop-in evenings when girls will test their super powers and practice being a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader). They’ll discover how they can participate in Girl Scouts throughout the year.
“Girl Scouts helps girls develop their full potential,” said Joanne Crepeau, CEO of Girl Scouts of Maine. “When a girl becomes a Girl Scout, she grows into a young woman who is self-confident, strong and compassionate. She learns how to build and maintain healthy relationships. She becomes more aware of the world around her and uses her skills and talents to make her world a better place.”

4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Belgrade Community Center for All Seasons;
4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, Mexico Library, Mexico;
4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, Mechanic Falls Library, Mechanic Falls;
4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, Auburn Public Library, Auburn;
4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, Canaan Library, Canaan;
4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, Rumford Library, Rumford.
Girls Night Out events are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at:
Friday, Sept 15, Edward Little High School, Auburn;
Friday, Sept. 29, United Methodist Church, Waterville;
Friday, Sept. 29, University of Maine Farmington, Olson Student Center, Farmington;
Friday, Oct. 6, Christ Church, Gardiner.
