RANGELEY — The Rangeley Public Library will offer an eight-week technology series on Thursday evenings during September and October. This series has been created specifically with the novice computer user in mind, however more seasoned users may also find it useful.
The workshops are at 6 p.m. and presented by Patrick Smith, a Rangeley resident with an extensive background in computer technology.
On Sept. 7, the topic will be computer basics, a slide show presentation for those with little to no experience with computers. Topics include hardware, software, the Internet, web pages, email cloud services and more.
On Sept. 14, the topic is Internet safety, which looks at ways to stay safe on the Internet, featuring easy tips through slideshow images and short videos.
On Sept. 21 and 28, Android smart phones will be covered. It is also a good opportunity for those thinking about getting a smartphone to learn how to buy one and how to operate the touchscreen. It will also include making and receiving phone calls, Google Play, messaging, email, contacts, apps, web surfing on a phone, and more.
On Oct. 5, 12 and 19, Windows 10 will be explored and those who are new to the Microsoft application are encouraged to come to all three parts, starting with the fundamentals in the first presentation and building from there.
On Oct. 26, iPhones will be discussed, geared toward novices of Apple’s mobile phone. Basic functions of the iPhone, iCloud, and more will be explored.
Smith was a senior project adviser for a major software company and now works part-time at the Rangeley Public Library.
The Rangeley Public Library was a recipient of a Maine Public Library Fund to offer adult computer literacy programming, which is funded by voluntary contributions when citizens file Maine State tax returns.
