Concerts at Jewett begin at UMA Oct. 29

AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Sciences and UMA Senior College have announced the 2017-2018 concert schedule for the 15th season of Concerts at Jewett, held at Jewett Hall Auditorium.

The series, sponsored by local businesses and private contributions, features talented Maine performers representing a variety of musical forms. Profits will be used to subsidize present and future lectures and concerts to benefit the community. All shows are at 2 p.m. on a Sunday and at Jewett Hall, unless otherwise noticed.

The series begins Sunday, Oct. 29, with Novel Jazz, a seven-piece band led by Barney Balch. Other performers are, on Nov. 19, composer/pianist Paul Sullivan; Dec. 17, the Downeast Brass and Jay Zoller, organist, at South Parish Congregational Church, 9 Church St.; Jan. 7, The Don Roy Ensemble, featuring fiddle and piano music in the French Canadian tradition;, Feb. 11, Augusta Symphony Orchestra ensembles; March 11, Maine-ly Harmony and Back Bay Four two a cappella groups;, April 8, State Street, traditional jazz band; May 20, classical pianist Chiharu Naruse.
