Hobbs Library series looks at Electoral College, race and indigenous rights

LOVELL — A three-part series, The World in Your Library, will be held at Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library, on Tuesdays, beginning Aug. 22.
The series of hour-long presentations covers the topics of the Electoral College in Maine, race and mass incarceration and indigenous rights. Partners in the program, besides the library, are the Maine Humanities Council, the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation and the Mid-Coast Forum on Foreign Relations.

The programs are free and open to the public.
Jim Melcher, professor of political science at the University of Maine at Farmington, will speak on “The Electoral College and Maine,” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 22.
Leroy Rowe, professor of African American History and Politics at the University of Southern Maine, will speak on “Race and Mass Incarceration,” at 7 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 27
Sherri Mitchell, an indigenous rights attorney and activist, will speak on indigenous rights in Maine at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5.
