Lewiston shelter to participate in pet adoption drive Aug. 19

Aug. 162017

LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will participate in the third annual “Clear the Shelters” nationwide pet adoption drive Saturday, Aug, 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the shelter, 55 Strawberry Ave. GAHS will offer reduced and waived pet adoption fees as part of the nationwide initiative seeking to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Since 2015, “Clear the Shelters” has resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide.

Visitors to the shelter can meet dozens of pets of many different breeds, sizes and colors in need of homes. Adoption fees on pets older than 6-months will be waived, and adoptions fees for puppies and kittens will be discounted 25%. All dogs and cats will be spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated before going to their new home.

For more information about the program, visit www.cleartheshelters.com or visit the web sites of partners WCSH6.com and WLBZ2.com; the “features” tab will provide a full list of local participating animal shelters. A real-time pet “adoption tracker” — posted on the Clear the Shelters web site — will record the total number of pets adopted across all participating markets.
