WILTON — Winners have been announced for the fifth annual Wilton Blueberry Festival Art Show, which had 35 entries, appropriate for the festival’s 35th year. The festival, which was held Aug. 4 and 5, also announced winners in the cook-offs and parades.
Art show coordinator Kathi Smith reported that entries for the art show have doubled in the past two years. Smith, an assistant professor of art at Husson University and a Wilton native, took on the art show in 2012 as a project to promote community arts in her hometown in 2012.
“The arts are a powerful connector for any community because everyone can relate to them in one way or another, and it’s my pleasure to support these artists young and old,” she said. “I had remembered entering the Blueberry Festival Art Show as a child and am thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity and coordinate an event for the Blueberry Festival of which I have such fond memories.”
The 2017 juror was Henry Harley Wasserman, a third generation Wiltonian and traveling photojournalist.
Francine Bitting won Best of Show for “Summertime by the Coast,” a colored pencil drawing. Jasmine Saindon, won Best Themed Piece for “Mickey Mouse,” an acrylic painting; Lauryn Jaimie E. Walston won Best Aspiring Young Artist for “Wings of Water,” a piece in marker and paint.
