FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Center’s Hidden Gardens — described as “a unique garden tour” — will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The garden tour will take people off the beaten path, down country roads and into the woods for a look at eight very different gardens. Some of the gardens are quirky, others more formal; some feature flowers, others vegetables; some have animals. Garden owners will be available to talk about good and bad bugs, growing plants hydroponically, building a move-able green house, square-foot gardening and growing in shade. One of the featured gardens is the educational garden and outdoor classroom at Kennebec Montessori School.
A picnic lunch will be available at the grange hall, 14 Oakland Road, Fairfield Center; the lunch costs $8.
All proceeds from the garden tour will be used to help Victor Grange purchase a new furnace to replace the vintage model installed in 1946. Tickets for the event, sponsored by Victor Grange #49, are $12 in advance or $15 on the day of the tour. For more information or to purchase tickets call 207-453-9476.
