Gardiner Federal Credit Union Ending Hunger program donates more than $24,000

Jul. 212017

GARDINER — The Gardiner Federal Credit Union staff and board members in May presented a total of $24,173.71 to nine area food pantries and organizations that provide meals to neighbors in need, throughout the area. The donation from the Ending Hunger program is an increase of more than $4,600 over last year’s, credit union officials said in a news release.
“This would not be possible without the help and support of so many Credit Union and community members,” the release said, adding that 15 percent of Maine households experience food insecurities. “We are committed to help make certain that those in need do not go hunger and appreciate the generous support of our members.”
To support GFCU’s current Ending Hunger Campaign fundraiser, cash calendars are on sale for $10 each through the end of July at Gardiner Federal Credit Union, 420 Brunswick Ave., and in the July Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce newsletter. Winners will get a combined total of $2,300, with one $100 winner each weekday throughout the month of August.
