GRAY — The Chainsaw Wildlife Art event returns to the Maine Wildlife Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22.
The park is at 56 Game Park Road, off Route 26.
Three professional chainsaw-carver artists will be at the park demonstrating the creative and impressive process of chainsaw carving of wildlife images.
Ron Carlson is a professional chainsaw carver from China. He began woodcarving in the mid-1960s and enjoyed this highly rewarding hobby until the early 1990s, when a friend introduced him to the chainsaw. The speed and versatility of chainsaw cutting amazed him, and his lifelong hobby became his business in 1993.
Tim Pickett is from southern Maine and has chainsaw carved the very popular bear, turtle and mountain lion at the Wildlife Park. Thousands of people have enjoyed these beautiful life-sized carvings and have had their photographs taken with them.
Dan Burns is from the Augusta area and specializes in carving bears and birds. He does free-standing carvings as well as stumps.
The Maine Wildlife Park is owned and operated by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and exists to promote an understanding and awareness of the wildlife, conservation and habitat protection programs, and has more than 30 species of native wildlife on display, as well as wildlife gardens, nature trails, a fish hatchery and other interactive exhibits and displays.
