LEWISTON — Patricia A. Vampatella was recently named the 2017 Margaret Ross Award winner for her 16 years of volunteerism at SeniorsPlus.
The award is given each year to a volunteer who has demonstrated significant contributions to the agency and the larger community. Almost 200 volunteers attended the event, which was held at the Ramada Inn in Auburn.
A resident of New Gloucester, Vampatella has served on the Board of Directors of SeniorsPlus for eight years. At SeniorsPlus, she has also served on the Ad Hoc Strategic Planning Committee and its Advisory Council.
“Whatever she does, Pat excels at, going beyond the call of duty,” said Betsy Sawyer-Manter, president and CEO of SeniorsPlus. “Her contributions to SeniorsPlus over the years are immeasurable and we are grateful for her support.”
Vampatella, spent the first part of her professional career covering most of the major specialties as a nurse, including long-term care, and later worked in higher education administration. She earned an associate degree in nursing from SUNY Farmingdale, a bachelor of science in nursing from Molloy College in New York, a masters in nursing administration from Boston University and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Maine. She retired from Central Maine Community College, where her last position was as academic dean. After six months of retirement, Vampatella spent three years as vice president for academic affairs at Quincy College in Massachusetts.
SeniorsPlus is the western Maine designated Agency on Aging covering Franklin, Oxford and Androscoggin counties. Its mission is to enrich the lives of older people and adults with disabilities and its overall program goal is to assist these individuals to remain safely at home for as long as possible.
SeniorsPlus believes in supporting the independence, dignity and quality of life of the 12,000 individuals it serves annually. Its Meals on Wheels program alone serves almost 100,000 meals annually to almost 800 people.
