NORWAY — The town’s annual report for 2015-16, dedicated to Town Manager David J. Holt, is now available online. Residents can find the report at norwaymaine.com/town-of-norway-annual-report-2015-16. It was posted June 27. Holt announced his retirement in April after 28 years on the job. His last day was Friday, June 30.
Holt, a Greenwood native, graduated from Telstar High School in Bethel in 1972, and, after graduating from the University of Maine, was town manager in Princeton, Dexter and Standish before coming to Norway in 1989. In 1999, he received the Lincoln Stackpole Manager of the Year award from the Maine Town and City Managers Association.
“Humility, leadership, professional support to peers and dedication to public service are among the management characteristics the award recognizes,” the town report notes. “He has written well over 6 million dollars in grants for the towns that he has served and believes strongly in the preservation of historical buildings.
“Modest about his accomplishments, David will quietly tell that it has been his great honor to serve Norway, but to him, the people have always been number one and he will count the friends that he has made along the way as a very special part of his service,” the dedication in the report reads.
“David, we thank you so much for all you have given to the town of Norway and we wish you well in your retirement.”
Holt succeeded Larry Todd when he came to the job in 1989. Todd had been town manager for 15 years.
