AUBURN — The fifth annual Empowerment Forum for People with Disabilities will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
The keynote speaker this year is Sue Wiygul Martin, who is legally blind and is a leading expert on assistive technology.
The day will include a panel of individuals who will speak to navigating the challenges of having a hidden disability. The day will also provide an opportunity for people to provide feedback on the various disability service systems.
The event is free for people with disabilities and includes lunch. To learn more about the event or to register, visit www.caresinc.org or call Jenn Ardito at 377-7055. Registration is required and must be by Aug. 10. Requests for accommodations must be made by July 27. Requests made after that date cannot be guaranteed, however, every effort will be made to honor the request.
The Empowerment Forum is hosted by the Five Council Collaborative, which is made of the Statewide Independent Living Council, State Rehabilitation Council for Vocational Rehabilitation, the State Rehabilitation Council for the Division of the Blind & Visually Impaired, the Commission for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing & Late Deafened, the State Workforce Board’s Commission on Disability & Employment and the Consumer Council System of Maine.
