WATERVILLE – Kaylyn Trussell, a 2017 Waterville Senior High School graduate, is the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce Joseph B. Ezhaya scholarship winner.
Trussell spends her time volunteering at Notre Dame Church and Sacred Heart Church cleaning, helped in first and fifth grade classes at Benton Elementary School, walked dogs and attended to cats at the Waterville Area Humane Society, assisted in night classes at Mid-Maine Adult Ed and tutored high school students and mentally disabled women, the chamber said in a news release. She participated in in many extracurricular activities such as pep band, key club, student ambassador, varsity soccer and was the captain of the intramural volleyballs team and the varsity basketball team.
She plans to attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in the fall for nursing.
The annual scholarship was established in memory of Joe Ezhaya, a community leader who was known for his generosity and dedication to civic engagement. The $750 annual scholarship is distributed to the recipient after the completion of the first semester of college with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and is given for up to four years.
