AUBURN — Help the Auburn Public Library kick off its summer reading program with a high-energy performance of “Engineering a Better World” by Mad Science of Maine, Monday, June 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. The event is free, and kids may register for the program at the show or in the children’s department.
Readers and listeners may set their own goals. How many books do you hope to read or listen to this summer? Read anything you’re interested in. Keep a log of titles you’ve read, and the library will provide small incentives to encourage you to your goal. At the end of the program, kids who read or listen to at least 10 books may choose a gift book to keep. Please collect your gift book between Aug. 7 and Sept. 2.
Preschool stories will take place Wednesdays from July 5 through Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. Preschoolers and their families are welcome to join the fun on the story quilt in the children’s room for songs, stories, finger plays, fun and friendship.
The Wallace family will present the annual “Happy Birthday America” story time with cake and a parade Saturday, July 1, at 10 am. To register for this very special story time, please call the library at 333-6640, ext. 3.

* MESSY ART PROJECTS — Heather Runnels will lead kids ages three-to-seven in three messy, artistic projects in the Maggie Trafton Room Thursday, June 29, at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., or June 30 at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Registration is required. Please register for only one session. Call the children’s room at 333-6640, ext. 3, for more information and to register.
* SUMMER OF SCIENCE — Join us Thursdays afternoons from July 13 through Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. for six fun-filled science program with Maisy Cyr of 4H of Maine. This program is designed for kids in grades 1 thraough 5. Space is limited; please call the library at 333-6640, ext. 3, to register or register online at www.auburnpubliclibrary.org. Please plan to attend all six sessions.
* MONTHLY LEGO CLUB — Join the fun on Fridays, June 2 through July 7 and Aug. 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. for our monthly LEGO Club in the Maggie Trafton Room. The library provides the space and the LEGOs. Kids just need to come with their ideas and imaginations. Please be advised there will be small pieces that present a choking hazard. This program is not suitable for very young children. For more information, please call the library at 333-6640 ext. 3. Additionally, the librarywill host a vacation LEGO Club activity on two Wednesdays, July 19 and Aug. 16., from 2 to 4 p.m.
* CRAFTERNOONS — The library will host drop-in crafting programs on the fourth Wednesday of the month, June 28 and July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. The library will provide 2-3 projects children can make and personalize. This program is best for kids in grades 2-6. There will be no session in August but Crafternoons will begin again in September.
* FAMILY CONCERT — Visit the library Tuesday, July 11 at 11 am for a free, family concert featuring talented Maine musician Rob Duquette, performing in the Androscoggin Community Room. All ages are welcome.
* SONGS & STORIES FOR A SMALL PLANET — Jackson Gilman will provide a fun-filled evening Monday, July 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Call it what you like — cabaret, vaudeville or story/song-filled fun. Any way you slice it, Jackson Gillman’s performances reach out and touch the audience, making them laugh, making them think, and leaving them delighted. All ages are welcome.
* GRANDFATHER TANG’S STORY BAG — Come enjoy “Grandfather Tang’s Story,” written by Ann Tompert and illustrated by Robert Andrew Parker, Friday, July 28, at 10 a.m. in the Maggie Trafton Room. Cindy Petherbridge will lead participants in re-creating the tangram animals in the story and then, using fusible fabric, to create one of the animals (or their own design) that will be ironed onto a canvas bag they may take home. * MAGIC SHOW WITH CONJURING CARROLL — A magical evening will get under way Monday Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. As the summer reading program begins to wind down, it’s time to take part in a fun and entertaining magic show featuring “Conjuring Carroll.”
* BUILD A BETTER WORLD — It’s time to save the bees! Jenn Tyler (Miss Jenn) will be back again this summer on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. with stories, songs, activities and a bit of honey tasting.
