Jun. 12017

AUGUSTA — Rep. Dick Bradstreet, R-Vassalboro, and Rep. Matt Pouliot, R-Augusta, presented The Red Barn restaurant owner Laura Benedict with a legislative sentiment recognizing that it was named winner of the 2017 Restaurant Neighbor Award by the National Restaurant Association.

The Restaurant Neighbor Award honors restaurants for outstanding community service and provides each of the four national winners with $5,000 to continue their charitable works, according to a news release. According to the National Restaurant Association, “The Red Barn is the centerpiece of giving in Augusta, Maine. The restaurant puts community first through donations to veterans, local schools, statewide food banks and animal welfare organizations.”

Bradstreet said on the floor of the House, “People from all over the area look forward to the next charitable event at The Red Barn…Laura’s dedication to helping those in need, her willingness to use her business to make life better for others, and her generosity of spirit clearly merit this award.”
