TURNER — The annual Leavitt Father’s Day 5k will be held Saturday, June 17, beginning at 9 a.m. at Leavitt Area High School, 21 Matthews Way. The race will start on the fields between the football field and track; registration is through Active.com.
One may visit the race website at www.leavittfathersday5k.com for the link to sign up.
This race is a central Maine woods trail and field 5k to help raise funds for the Leavitt cross country team. A number of parent-child teams run the trail, and special prize drawings for parent-child teams are offered during the awards. So far, the youngest person running/walking the 5k last year was 4 years-old, but there is also a fabulous kids’ fun run for the youngest crowd at 10:15 a.m.
The fees are $15 if pre-registered; $20 on race day; free for 10 and under if pre-registered; $5 on race day for 10 and under. The first male and female to finish will receive $50 each; there are medals for first and second place finishers in each age group; special raffle prizes for parent/child combinations; performance tees to the first 100 registrants. Divisions are 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. In addition to its primary goal of raising money to support the school’s cross-country team, the race is also an opportunity to bring families, alummi and the community together to run and enjoy being outside, the organizers noted.
This year’s race is sponsored by Hillandale Farms, Kaplan University, Center Street Dental, Bangor Savings Bank, Udderly Delicious/Bussiere Goat Milk Dairy, Bert Labbe the Builder, Clark Metal Fabrication (5k medals), and Road ID (bib numbers).
