LEWISTON — The Just Us Entertainers will be presenting its final concert Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at the Dolard and Priscilla Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. They were the first group to perform at the center in August 2000, to raise funds for the “Festival de Joie.” Their very first show was in September 1990 for the Lewiston Elks Emblem Club.
Since then the group — an eclectic assembly of families and friends performing great music for generations — has appears at the center 38 times for various events. All music is performed live, and songs are learned by ear — no sheet music. Harmony comes from within the hearts of each talent. The group performed at every Memorial Day ceremony since then; through 2015, they performed at every Veterans Day ceremony at the Lewiston Armory.
According to the group’s Facebook page, the June 4 concert “will mark the end of The “Just Us” Entertainers. This will be their final show. After 18 years of performing and raising funds for non-profit organizations, age, illness and family demands have taken its toll. The entire group agrees that we are older, tired and ready to slow down. What’s sad is that there are no other groups who do what we do, perform the older songs the way we do, and entertain the way we do. All good things must come to an end. We wish to thank everyone who supported us by attending our shows and a small group of volunteers who were there when we needed help. Special thanks to to the members of The “Just Us” entertainers for a wonderful 18 years… — Nel Merservier”
For many years, Just Us Entertainers has performed at the Franco Center in order to assist in raising funds for the continued operation of the non-profit organization. This will be the 17th year the entertainers have held such an event. “Just Us” has performed more than 200 times for the people of Lewiston-Auburn, with as many as 22 active members. The final performance will feature its 13 remaining performers, led by Nel Meservier.
