SIDNEY — A total of 83 moms and sons gathered Saturday, May 13, for James H. Bean School’s Mom & Son Fun Night, sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Organization. This year the event had a “Survivor” theme, with representation from across the RSU 18 school district.
Moms and sons were divided into eight teams bearing names from previous seasons of the TV show “Survivor,” completing challenges of varying degrees, including cannon ball, walk-the-plank, tug-o-war and the school’s own “Survivor” auction led by Aaron “Jeff” Dostie.
The overall goal of the annual event is to bring the greater school community together as a whole and for moms and sons to share in a fun experience.
This was the first time the James H. Bean PTO had explored a theme of “Survivor” for the event. Past Mom and Son Fun Nights had a “Minute to Win It” theme, so moving to a larger team event posed some initial scheduling challenges. After some necessary tweaks and with Natasha MacQuillan at the helm, the event came together seamlessly.
The winning tribe at the conclusion of the event was Rotu, with team members Valoree and Cameron Chabot from Belgrade Central School, Teresa and Cameron Sinclair and Danielle and Thatcher Hileman from James H. Bean Elementary, and Johanna, Ethan and Parker Studholmes from China Primary School.
This event brings James H. Bean’s PTO year to a conclusion and leaves them with a spring to their step. It’s great when the plan comes together, and it’s evident moms and sons are having a great time, making all the preparation and work worthwhile. The PTO thanks all volunteers, who made the event a success, and looks to begin planning the 2017-2018 PTO events this summer.
