Snowmobiler paralyzed in March 4 accident
JAY — For the past 12 weeks, several community members have been working together to raise money for a medical fund set up for Livermore resident Brady Donahue, who was injured in a snowmobile accident March 4 in Sherman Mills. From the accident scene, Donahue was transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital, and after being stabilized, air lifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
He underwent two surgical procedures there and remained in the Intensive Care Unit until March 17, when he was deemed strong enough to be moved to begin physical and occupational therapy at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston, where he is receiving extensive physical therapy. At this point, Donahue remains paralyzed from the waist down. Prior to the accident, Donahue graduated from Spruce Mountain High school in 2016 and was furthering his education.
Because of the expenses incurred from a prolonged rehabilitation, the need for continued physical therapy, and the specialized equipment required once he returns as well as retrofitting his home, friends and family have been putting together a number of ways to raise money to meet these needs.
* Donations buckets have been placed in area businesses to collect money.
* “Brady Strong” decals are available at the town office and will be for sale at the benefit.
* Tee shirts can be ordered for $10 with a #BRADYSTRONG message.
* Basket raffles, regular raffles and 50/50’s are ongoing.
* A spaghetti supper will be held Friday, June 9, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall, 148 Main St; all proceeds will go toward the medical fund.
* There is a June calendar raffle with basket items to be won for each and every day that month. Tickets are still on sale and will be through the end of June, giving everyone who has purchased a ticket 30 chances to win.
Tickets to the supper are $8 for adults and $5 for children. You do not need to be present to win, and any winners not present at the end of the spaghetti supper will be notified. Area merchants and individuals have donated many raffle items, silent auction items and provided food for the supper.
