SIDNEY — Francis Marshall Walton Jr., 77, a longtime resident of Raymond and Fayette, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Snow Pond Residential Care Center, where he had resided for the past two and a half years.
He was born Nov. 1, 1939, in Portland, the son of Francis M. Walton Sr. and Marion O. (McCatherin) Walton.
Francis attended Pride Training School in Portland, as as one of the school’s original students. The school was a learning center for developmentally challenged young people. Francis’ interests were trains, Dagwood and Blondie comic books, the Sunday paper comic section, any and all kinds of puzzles, writing letters, drawing greeting cards for relatives and friends and meeting new people.
He was a member of Treat Memorial Library in Livermore Falls, the 470 Railroad Club in Portland, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum in Portland and the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum in Alna, Sabbath Day Lake Grange, the Raymond Fire Department Auxiliary and a deacon of East Raymond Church.
He is survived by his brother, Clyde D. Walton of Fayette; nieces and nephews Candy (Farrar) Scripture and her husband, Gerald, of Raymond; Cindy (Farrar) Cayer and her husband, Bob, of Fairfield; Christine (Farrar) Cook of Windham; Stephen Farrar of and his wife, Eliza, of Northwood, N.H.; Edwin Farrar and companion, Karen Luce, of Windham; Sharon (Walton) Jacobs and her husband, Thomas, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Kimberlee (Walton) Spores and her husband, Ken, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Thomas C. Walton, Jr. and his wife, Stella, of Raleigh, N.C.; Glenn Walton, of Sanford; Tim C. Walton and his wife, Marian, of Livermore; many grand-nieces and grand-nephews; special cousins Kristine (Carpenter) Miller and her husband, Chuck, of Gorham; Lee Carpenter and his wife, KC, of Gorham; Mark Carpenter and his wife, Gayle, of Buxton; and special friend, Ann Ramsey, of Concord, N.H.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Thomas C. Walton Sr., and sisters, Dorothy D. Walton and Candace J. Walton.
The family would like to acknowledge the great care Francis received while at Snow Pond Residential Care Center, as well as from the Maine General Hospice team. The administrators, staff and residents there all treated him exceptionally well and cared deeply for him. They were all considered his extended family. For that, we are greatly appreciative. Francis was a friend to everyone he ever met. He was a kind, sweet person and if you had the great fortune to have known him; you were truly fortunate indeed.
A funeral service was held at Raymond Village Church, Raymond. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Plains Road, Raymond. Arrangements were by Finley Funeral Home.
