LEWISTON –The Lewiston-Auburn LGBTQ community’s first family pride celebration will be held at from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Simard-Payne Park.
The festival will be preceded by a 10 a.m. parade, which will begin at the park.
Organizers urge the public to “come, show your support, and stay for the celebration.” Activities will include a dunk tank with local politicians, live music, performances of camp and burlesque, a variety of food trucks, a bounce house, and more fun and games.
In a news release, organizers said the event continues the spirit of pride that began in the 1970s and was promoted by Harvey Milk, who said, “All young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.”
Milk was the first openly gay elected official in California. A member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, he was shot to death in 1978.
Admission is free, and free parking is available in the nearby parking garage.
