New executive director brings high energy and big ideas to Poland Spring
POLAND SPRING — Poland Spring Preservation Society is gearing up for an exciting season of new initiatives and activities on Ricker Hill. The board has hired a new executive director, Kerry Rasor, formerly vice-president of the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Rasor’s past work experience includes a background in hospitality and media sales, trade show and conference planning, and marketing. She hopes to bring more awareness and resources to the museums and Preservation Park, as well as attract more visitors to the museum complex and series of events.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of such a unique organization, with such rich history,” Rasor stressed, “and I can tell you that this season on the hill won’t be your average summer!”
The Board has decided to move its 39th annual Summer Concert Series outdoors to support a growing audience and take advantage of Maine’s pleasant summer evenings. Previous concerts have taken place in the 1912 All Souls Chapel. The chapel remains as an alternate location in inclement weather, but attendees will now be able to enjoy the scenic views Poland Spring has to offer while artists perform in the gazebo, located on the front lawn of the resort.
The concerts will begin Monday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Poland Regional High School music program. All concerts are on Mondays at 6:30 p.m.; they are free and open to the public. The last concert will take place in the chapel, with concert series’ favorites Phil House and Kathy Haley, who will playing the original 1926 Skinner pipe organ.
The Poland Spring Preservation Society also will be holding two other summer fundraising events. The Maine Heritage Golf Scramble takes place Tuesday, June 6, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. and tournament play at 9 a.m. Poland Heritage Day and Strawberry Festival is slated for Saturday, June 24. In addition to the events being offered, other exciting changes taking place include a new audio tour, featuring the voice of Norm Karkos, former news anchor for WMTW-TV, and an updated website and extended hours of operation during the weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
With its new look, new staffing, additional hours and growing events, the society is hoping to bring increased awareness to this unique and historic location and invite neighbors from the surrounding communities to visit and learn more about the unique and fascinating heritage of Poland Spring.
