MONMOUTH — The Theater at Monmouth is offering a chance for students in third through eighth grades the opportunity to dive into the world of William Shakespeare at Camp Shakespeare this summer.
From July 31 to Aug. 18, students can transform into Shakespeare’s characters through voice and movement, unravel Shakespeare’s plays as text detectives and perform for friends and family onstage at Theater at Monmouth. Campers can choose to attend one of three sessions. The sessions are one week, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Each session culminates with a sharing for friends and family.
Students in grades three through five, Groundlings, will be introduced to Shakespeare’s stories through theater games, art projects and creative play. Session A, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” runs from July 31 to Aug. 4; Session B, “Romeo and Juliet,” is from Aug. 7 to 11; Session C, “Twelfth Night,” is from Aug. 14 to 18.
Students in grades six to eight, Young Company, will learn to become an ensemble so they can collaboratively perform a Shakespeare play. Participants will investigate how Shakespeare directs actor choices through the text, learn to create unique characters and explore the art of unarmed stage combat. Sessions to choose from are Session D, “As You Like It,” from July 31 to Aug. 4; Session E, “The Tempest,” from Aug. 7 to 11; Session F, “The Comedy of Errors,” from Aug. 14 to 18.
