Minot Historical Society plans several fundraisers beginning June 30

MINOT — For more than a decade, members of the Minot Historical Society (MHS) have been dedicating their time and energy collecting and archiving the history of the community. Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month (except December and February), to discuss current and future business.

Every meeting features a guest speaker educating the group on a variety of different subjects. Guests and new members are always welcome to attend these meetings.

Following are several activity fundraisers planned for this year:
* Saturday, June 24 — Bake sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hemond’s Moto-X (New England Classic), 695 Woodman Hill Road. This is an opportunity to check out New England’s finest dirt bike racers while enjoying and have some good eats with proceeds benefiting the society.

* Saturday, July 29 — Civil War Encampment at MHS Historical House, 493 Center Minot Hill Road. Come see what life was like back in the 1860’s. There will be music, soldier camps with cook fires, black powder demonstrations, tin type photography and more. Contact 207-966-2622 for more information.

* Friday and Saturday, June 30, July 1 — Annual yard sale, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Historical House, 493 Center Minot Hill Road; please contact Eda Tripp, 207-346-0951 to make donations.

* Saturday, Aug. 19 — MHS’s first Lifted Truck & Off-road Vehicle Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hemond’s Moto-X, 695 Woodman Hill Road. Come check out area folks’ pride and joy, meet vendors and have some good eats. New off-road vehicle trails will be open to atv/utv/off-road truck-Jeep show vehicles from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per visitor vehicle; show vehicles are free. Lunch and baked goods will be sold. * Saturday, Sept. 23 — Minot Community Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hemond’s Moto-X, 695 Woodman Hill Road. Come check out local vendors, play games and meet your neighbors. Lunch for sale by MHS. * Saturday, Oct. 14 — MHS’s Annual Chili-Chowder Challenge from 4 to 6 p.m. at West Minot Grange. Individuals, businesses, neighborhoods or clubs can compete and eat at this soon-to-be annual event. There is no fee to enter. Votes will be cast for a winner in each category. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children; call 207-966-2622 for more information.

* Saturday, Nov. 11 — Veteran’s Day ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Minot Town office; MHS will be hosting Veteran’s Day with a lunch, continuing to celebrate our local veterans.
