RANGELEY — WRGY, the non-profit, community/educational radio station for the Rangeley region, has announced that Rangeley resident Hudson DeRaps has assumed the role of station manager, replacing Derek Wendelken, who is retiring after six years of service. Hudson has had an interest in radio from his youth, and has been a volunteer at the station for more than five years, producing and hosting more than 220 music and talk-related programs during that time.
Since its inception in late 2010, WRGY has grown its portfolio of programs to meet the preferences of a very diverse listening audience, including full-time area residents and visitors from all over the country. A program schedule is available at wrgy.org or by emailing the station at wrgyradio@gmail.com.
In 2016 the station installed a new transmitter on Saddleback mountain to improve reception throughout the area. One of its key objectives, through internet streaming at wrgy.org, is to serve as a link to the Rangeley region for the many visitors and seasonal residents who constitute an important part of the area economy. During its year-end campaign for financial support in 2016, more than 50% of individual donors were from outside the area.
In addition to linking visitors to the region, WRGY also supports area non-profit organizations by promoting their events at no cost throughout the year. The following is a partial list of organizations and causes supported during 2016:

Until it can broaden its base of business underwriters, the station is seeking financial support in 2017 from the Town of Rangeley and surrounding plantations.
“We are very pleased to have Hudson DeRaps join us as Station Manager,” commented Dave McMillan, board president. “As WRGY has broadened its base of individual and business underwriter support, the station consistently sought less annual financial support from the Town of Rangeley and surrounding plantations, and this year is no different.”
He added, “We hope our listeners, members and supporters of the non-profit organizations we promote will vote to support the station this year.”
