NORWAY — Artists are being offered an opportunity to exhibit and create in Norway this summer, organizers of the Norway Arts Festival announced. This year’s kick-off Norway Arts Festival event will be an exhibit of artwork “inspired by Duncan E. Slade.” From June 2 through 4, the Matolcsy Art Center on Main Street will host an exhibit and sale of paintings, including an original by Slade.

Artists are invited to contribute work inspired by Slade for the show. Slade, a former teacher at Oxford Hills Junior High School, lived in Lewiston, South Paris, and, before his death in 2013, in Norway.

“I paint the places I live,” he said. Plein air painters are also invited to set up and work in downtown Norway during the Arts Festival on July 8, when Main Street is open for pedestrians only. Exhibition space will be provided to participating painters. Exhibition space for artists and artisans is also being offered during the July 8 event.

Registrations are being accepted. For details and contact information, visit www.norwayartsfestival.org. The Norway Arts Festival is sponsored by the Western Maine Art Group and Norway Downtown.
