MANCHESTER — A more open layout and a visit from a popular reality show were features at the Manchester Lions Club held its 44th annual Home and Garden Show, which was held at the Augusta Civic Center the weekend of April 7 through 9.
Some 44 vendors took part in the event this year, said Michelle Crocker, show chairwoman and the Lions Club state district coordinator. The show sported a more open floor plan, with fewer dividing walls for attendees to look over and around. A highlight was a meet and greet from some of the team featured on the Maine Cabin Masters DIY network show. Cast members Chase Morrill and Matt Dixx visited with show followers on Saturday, as one after another came up to say hello and maybe buy a T-shirt or bumper sticker.
The show also featured workshops on composting, making bouquets, kids workshops and a performance by the Young American Dance Troupe. The main sponsors of this year’s Lions Club show were Kramer’s Inc, Dave’s Appliance, Delta Ambulance and the Home Depot.
The Manchester Lions Club is involved greatly in community service and on occasion offers financial support for disaster relief and other causes. The Lions Club has a worldwide membership of 1.4 million in 200 countries. The 42-member Manchester club has been involved with youth sports, providing eye glasses for those in need, food and fuel assistance, Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, local scholarships, the Apple Fest as well as the Home and Garden Show.
Another current project for the Manchester club is raising money for the Travis Mills Foundation, which is renovating the former Elizabeth Arden property on Watson Pond and Castle Island roads in Rome and Belgrade to serve as a retreat for veterans of the armed forces who are dealing with major physical and mental trauma.
