FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will host its 6th annual 5K/10K & Kids Fun Run on Sunday April 30, to benefit programming that aims to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts, the organization said in a news release.
Participants can register online at www.active.com, keywords “Run to Prevent Child Abuse,” and sign up for the run of their choice. The pre-registration cost for adults is $20 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K; race-day registration is an additional $2 dollars. The first 50 running registrants will receive free shirts. The Kids Fun Run, for children 12 and under, is free; children will enjoy a race around the block with ribbons for all. Race fees are tax deductible.
All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K/10K, but no pets, skateboards, roller blades or bicycles are allowed on the course. To keep runners and walkers well hydrated, the course will provide three water stations.
Participants of the 5K/10K can pay by credit card online or by cash or check on the day of the race. Checks may be made out to FCCTF. Proceeds help to provide community education programming in Franklin County including peer maltreatment (bullying). Peer abuse is now recognized as a prevalent feature of school life and, in terms of impact, outcomes and intervention requirements, it can be equated with other forms of child abuse, according to the release.
Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the race at the FCCTF office on 113 Church St. The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K/10K will begin at 9. Preregistration is encouraged. For more information, call 778-6960.
