LEWISTON — Students pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to submit artwork featuring the mission of the TALK positive communication campaign, the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council announced.
TALK stands for Treat All Listeners Kindly, and was launched Feb. 7, and encourages individuals to communicate with others in a respectful manner, whether the conversation is at school, at home, at work, out in the community or in political discussions, a news release from the council said. “LYAC wants people to remember that it’s important to ‘share your perspective, not your attitude.'”
The council seeks poems, photos, drawings or paintings that show the importance of being respectful when talking and treating all listeners kindly. The art will be displayed at a TALK Youth Art Gallery event from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, at the Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St. The deadline for submission is April 24.
Youth who submit items and attend the event will receive a free water bottle and have an opportunity to sign a 6-foot banner. Advisory council members will be on hand to greet and interact with attendees.
Parking will be available on Lisbon Street, as well as at the Centreville Parking Garage, 29 Chestnut St. Parking is free after 6 p.m.; if arrival for the event is before 6 p.m., however, one’s garage ticket may be validated in the Library’s Children’s Room.
