KV YMCA’s Stingrays win many crowns at state swim meet

AUGUSTA — The Kennebec Valley YMCA Stingrays Swim Team finished fifth overall — including the girls 11-12 age group championship and many individual championships — at the Maine YMCA State Championship Meet March 3 through 5 at the University of Maine’s Orono campus.

The Stingrays were ranked 11th in the state two years ago, but have moved up rapidly, led by coach Mike Schmidt and assistant coach Sara Knight. The Stingrays not only advanced in the rankings, but they also produced state champions, broke pool records, broke personal records and made a lot of great memories, the coaches said.
