LIVERMORE FALLS — The George Bunten Post 10 American Legion is sending out an SOS, asking area residents to turn out for Saturday’s monthly supper and to support suppers, which are held the third Saturday of the month, in the future.
“Post 10 needs your support as heating and snow season is hard upon us so our monthly costs are sky rocketing,” said a news release from the post. Organizers said that four monthly suppers since July have been canceled because of weather or other issues “and our budget is in real trouble because of that.
“From road construction to snow storms we have little control” and the post has spent more on snow plowing than it had in the last 25 or more years.
“So we really need your support this week. Our last few suppers had less than 40 attending, that is sad for a post that has supported these communities for 98 years in Livermore Falls.”
Public suppers keep Post 10 alive, and the post asks for the community’s support “so we can continue to support our communities into the future.”
Members, guests and friends are all welcome at the suppers, which help the Legion provide programs that include Boys and Girls State, high school scholarships, flag education, veterans programs and support, special assistance, transportation for veterans to Togus veterans hospital, the Livermore /Livermore Falls Historical Society and many more.
The dinners take place the third Saturday of the month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at George Bunten Post 10 American Legion, 17 Reynolds Ave. The meal includes beans, casseroles and homemade desserts, and the cost is $7 for adults, $4 for those under 12. Local delivery is also available by calling 897-5676. Parking, besides at the post, is available at Maine Land Development.
