April 21 Zumbathon 2017 benefits Togus Veterans

Mar. 142017

MADISON — Sponsored by by the Madison American Legion Auxiliary Unit #39 and featuring several of the area’s Zumba instructors, the annual Zumbathon is slated for April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym at Madison Junior High School. Doors open at 5 p.m.

This year’s proceeds will benefit Maine Veterans’ programs at Togus such keeping the supply closets filled with comfort items for every veteran who is admitted, coffee/newspapers in the waiting rooms at Togus, gifts at Christmas, activities at each holiday and items for the homeless veterans. There is a $12 event fee, and participants are asked to bring a change of shoes, as no outside shoes are allowed on the gym floor.

Bottled water and snacks will be provided. Another aspect of the event is outlining the gym floor with “Hero Bags.” These bags are decorated with red, white and blue stars and can be purchased for $3. Participants can then write their hero veteran’s name on the bag and insert a battery-operated tealight (provided) inside. The bags are then then placed on the gym floor, creating a memorable event. Zumbathon 2017 is open to anyone interested in attending.

Anyone seeking additional information or those who cannot attend but would like to purchase a Hero Bag should contact Tiara Nile at 431-7104 or email at tiara.nile@yahoo.com
