Grassroots activism program to be held March 11 in Auburn

AUBURN — People Power, a grassroots activist training program, will be offered at 4:30 p.m., Saturdya, March 11, at the First Universalist Church, 169 Pleasant St. Sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union, the event will engage volunteers in taking action when basic freedoms and constitutional rights are threatened, according to a news release from the Auburn UU Church.

RESIST Central Maine is also taking part, the release said. Participants will gain tools to influence national conversations, and debates within our own communities, including responding to specifics like resisting deportation raids, maintaining Planned Parenthood funding, defending sanctuary cities, and more, the release said.

“A training goal is to build and maintain communities that affirm our American values of respect, equality, and solidarity,” the release said. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch for themselves or a pizza to share.
